About 10 days ago, the second man in finance at the company where I work resigned, leaving a vacant seat, which can be considered as a stepping stone into top management.
So here I am today watching the emminent power struggle within the finance department, so far, no role has been assigned to me, except the fact that I've started taking over my boss's job, to allow him to jump in the late manager's suit.
Where this leads, I have no idea, I expect to be given the planning and analysis department, things are moving in that way, I've already been assigned a junior to make an analyst of him.
The question is, will I just be promoted on the chart (directly reporting to the CFO) - which I've been unofficially doing for the last 3 months - or will I also be promoted and finally given the title to match??
Whatever happens, looks like I'll have to start entering the power struggle with the existing managers for departmental dominance, and with the wanna-be managers (like me) who'll try to subdue me before I'm too big.
Is it time to start separating the boys from the men or should I bide my time further?
Already one of my peers, who's also expecting a promotion, tried probing me today, I let him win that round for a change.
But should I ride the tidal wave now, or let them put me in my place for a bit further??
Discuss!!!

O! how I'd loved to tell you to be the bigger man and sit that one out, and that if you diserve it, then it will come to you. but I don't have that much faith in Egyptian Fairness and on human nature as general I really believe that if people think of you as kind and nice it translate to mellow and no threat and they will be unfair to you on the ground that you are kind so you are manageable. It will probably be relatively easy ,since you are already doing the work load, to bag that promotion. but I say you should show them what you are really made of and fight for your right.
I'll go do the tag now
So far, that looks like the thing to do I guess.
i would like to say to join the game and play well
I would say yes fight the fight but do not let them drag you down with them if you know what I mean fight yes but with honour
U should always fight for ur rights.. if u huv been doing all that work and yet not being promoted, u should go fight for it..
U deserve it Shamel :))
observe while planning each move you plan to make and the counter moves for it by your peers and your supervisors... observe but only act when when it's time... collect all information and subtly show people while observing and waiting that it's not about being mellow, it's about confidence and knowing that you're probably the best to fit that place...
fight alright but don't do the petty things your peers might do... one of them won a mini battle cause you let him, hand him a shovel and direct him to digging his own grave instead of getting back at him....
i think each of us can self destruct, so help your competition self destruct....
shereera????
oh and i was working on the tag and noced u have chess for a hobby, so use all ur chess tactics :)
Play it wise my friend. Just try to be in a win win situation. Everything is fair in love and war.
The end justfies the means so as long as you mean well do it and you would be a winner remember nobody asks how did you win they just cheer the winner up and you end up being on the shoulders "Remember the baseball days as a quarter back"
